Secrets of Castle Negru

Transylvania, 1847. Stranded by a storm and a broken carriage wheel, widowed nurse Fiona has nowhere to go but Castle Negru, a fortress of black stone and the only shelter for miles. She means to stay one night. Instead she finds an orphanage where children move with unsettling precision and watch her with eyes too empty for their age. The physician’s reassurances come too smoothly. And Nicholas, the castle’s handyman, is too educated for his post and too watchful for a man with nothing to hide. The longer she remains, the more she begins to wonder whether the castle’s haunting strangeness is real or imagined or something else altogether. But Castle Negru does not surrender its secrets easily, and if she cannot uncover the truth before someone decides she knows too much, she may never leave its walls.
